A dabble in experimental theatre
Journal Entry: Tue Sep 5, 2006, 8:57 PM
NOW PLAYING: Tone Loc - Wild Thing
OK. So I got my work breif for the day ... or two.
Primarially lighting for some experimental theatre work at Massey University with their ... drama degree?! I have no idea what it's called. BA I'm guessing but BA in /what/ exactly! I dare say I'll find out soon enough. But it's very minimalistic theatre. Some of it is kinda fun to try and follow (fun being the operative word here) but all three pieces are stacking up to be pretty good ... considering today was the first "mock performance" for them. I'm quite impressed. There /IS/ writing talent in this hole of a town.
Some of them are so damned funny it's almost not funny. You try not laughing when you have my munted sense of humour, when the following happen.
Wife: That's all! The power's out!
Husband: Oh. Fuck. Oh well what's on the box? *fiddles with the telly ... smacks it a few seconds later ... hangs head* ... Fuck.
I know to some it may look like toilet humour but I was having trouble keeping a straight face. Yes I am officially STRANGE, but that's what I like about me (cue egotistical streak in post author).
Also got some other work out there soon (the coming monday to be precise) giving a little "creative technical input" for a production to one of the other students doing this drama thingymebob. Looks to be pretty cool, and could be a good chance to even spread my own creative wings. Which kinda brings me to my next query.
IT is becoming less and less glamourous with (no offence to Indians, you make good grub but it's annoying all the jobs I want seem to be going over that way) alot of IT related jobs going the way of India and the Phillipenes, and the amount of smeg IT people generally get. Getting back into this theatre tech vibe, I don't know. Part of me really wants to take it further, getting back into theatre and all. Sure I cannot sing (then again neither can some of the Idols on NZ Idol), and I probably cannot act for complete peanuts, but hell I love it all. The lighting and sound particularly all that sound and techy stuff. I love it. I loved it back in high school, and today kinda reminded me just how much I do miss it.
I don't know. To cash in the IT for Theatre, or not to cash in the IT for Theatre. Perhaps I should go more specialised in my IT stuff and COMBINE my love of IT and Theatre?! That could be interesting.

The other day, in the park, I was wondering why frisbees got bigger and bigger as they got closer to you...
And then it hit me.

I am currently head publicist for a new community, Aotearoa.
This community celebrates our beautiful country, New Zealand. I'd be glad if you went along and checked it out. It would be great if you joined, but no pressure! Just have a look around - there isn't much to look at yet, but hopefully there will be soon.
Peace out, and thanks,
Tilly.
